School closes after teachers receive death threats

By: V4 Agency

An entire institution was forced to close down after its teachers had received messages featuring pornographic and jihadi content, as well as death threats. Police have detained an underage student.

Radical Islamism has already infiltrated French schools, something evidenced by the tragic death of Samuel Paty, a history teacher beheaded on a street in broad daylight in mid-October. His death has received extensive media coverage, especially after it turned out that underage students and their parents were also involved in the Islamist revenge campaign the teacher fell victim to.

Recently, there was another shocking incident in the  Puy-de-Dome departement in the central France, which has led to the closure of the Pierre Joel Bonte secondary school, an institution boasting about a thousand students in the town of Riom.

According to information obtained by Le Figaro the school was shut down after several teachers had received derogatory messages, and then threats. It all began last week after teachers were first sent pornographic messages, followed by death threats and images with jihadi content, as attachments. In line with the school district’s statement, the school had to be closed as a precautionary measure, in order to protect students and workers.

According to press reports, the e-mail messages were received via the national educational communication platform, an interface used by the school as a means of communication between teachers, students and their families.

Over the weekend police detained a 15-year-old student an another teenage boy who was later released, according to Prosecutor Eric Maillaud, who was in charge of the case. He stressed that an IT investigation was also under way, adding that the schhol had set up a special psychological unit.

Laurent Wauquiez, president of the regional council of Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, also spoke about the case, calling in unacceptable in a recent tweet that the French Republic was being threatened through its teachers. He stressed that they took the threats seriously and would only reopen the school once the issue has been dealt with.
