People of “non-Western” descent commit too much crime and sexual violence, leading to a growing sense of insecurity in Danish society, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said

People of “non-Western” descent commit too much crime and sexual violence, leading to a growing sense of insecurity in Danish society, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said. Denmark’s premier also stressed that as Europe’s asylum system was obviously not working, she would propose that asylum applications could only be submitted and processed outside the EU.

“We want to prevent migrants from seeking asylum on Danish soil. They should only do so in third countries,” Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in the Danish parliament.

Ms Fredricksen stressed that as Europe’s asylum system had unequivocally collapsed, the government was getting ready to submit a bill on restoring the mechanism of accepting newcomers in Denmark. The new system would remove any incentives that encourage refugees to make Denmark their automatic target destination, creating a safer and more transparent mechanism for taking in refugees. She also pointed out that Denmark should pursue stricter policies to offset Europe’s weak asylum system.

In another statement, the prime minister also spoke about growing insecurity in the country over young men, mostly “of non-Western descent”, harassing young girls simply because they are Danish.

“Without generalising, we must face facts,” Ms Frederiksen said. “One out of five men of non-Western descent is sentenced to prison before the age of 21,” she added, stressing that these men typically have extensive criminal records.

“This is nothing new and it’s been going on for years,” the prime minister said. She said some citizens are being harassed simply because they are “too Danish”, adding that even a sausage vendor in Bronshoj was attacked for selling pork. “In Denmark you should be safe everywhere, whether you are in a nightclub, a residential area or a train station,” she stressed.
