By: V4 Agancy

The prime minister did not survive the coalition crisis which ensued in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. He resigned and his successor has already been selected.

Slovak Prime Minister Igor Matovic announced his resignation on Sunday evening. He will be succeeded by former finance minister Eduard Heger. The two politicians will switch seats, with Mr Matovic continuing as finance minister.

During his press briefing, the prime minister apologised to  people for the coalition crisis, adding that the period preceding the Holy Week is a time for forgiveness, therefore he would not want to engage in any mudslinging.

The new prime minister has been accepted by all members of the governing coalition. Eduard Heger announced on Sunday evening that he would like to meet President Zuzana Caputova on Monday. The head of state can appoint him as prime minister as early as Wednesday.
