In the country’s northern regions the total support for all centre-right parties now exceeds 50 per cent.

According to opinion polls, support for Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy (Fdl) Party approached the popularity of the Democratic Party – currently in crisis – by reaching 15.7 per cent. A survey by the Il Sole 24 Ore newspaper, the most popular party is Lega, led by Matteo Salvin, which stands at 28.8 per cent.

Support for the center-left Five Star Movement fell to 10.2 per cent.

59 per cent of those polled believe Mr Salvini will do well again in the next election. Some maintain that Brothers of Italy is currently the only opposition party capable of gagarnering the votes of right-wing supporters who do not back Draghi’s government.
