PM Morawiecki: We are not striving for herd immunity

Many lecture us about coronavirus even though they do not know the first thing about it themselves, the Polish prime minister wrote in his Twitter post. He also made it clear that Poland’s pandemic response strategy was not based on herd immunity, and the government would not introduce another complete lockdown.

Poland did not opt for the concept of the so-called collective immunity, Mateusz Morawiecki stated, calling it “the wrong way” of coronavirus response.

According to his Twitter message, many want to lecture the government with great conviction and from a position of authority on how to handle the coronavirus, despite having gaps in their basic knowledge.

The prime minister also shared an article published by The Lancet summarising the scientific consensus on the coronavirus. Mr Morawiecki pointed out that the Polish government’s strategy to handle the virus was based on that article and similar reliable sources. He announced that although strict measures had been put in place to ensure effective control, no complete lockdown was planned.

A lot depends on personal attitude, he added. “Let us not listen to demagogues, let us protect ourselves and our loved ones,” the prime minister wrote.
