Hungarian PM Viktor Orban met Montenegro’s President Milo Dukanovic in Budapest’s Carmelite Monastery on Tuesday, his press chief Bertalan Havasi told Hungary’s state news agency (MTI). He said one of the main topics of the talks was the mutual recognition of vaccination certificates, which can greatly contribute to restarting tourism, a key sector for both countries.

During the talks, which was also attended by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, parties agreed that the strong presence of Hungarian capital in Montenegro and Hungary being a consistent supporter of Montenegro’s Euro-Atlantic integration were key elements in bilateral relations.

During their discussion, Viktor Orban and Milo Dukanovic placed particular focus on the coronavirus pandemic. The friendship and good co-operation between the two countries were also demonstrated in the fight against the virus, PM Orban’s press chief (Bertalan Havasi) recalled, noting that Hungary donated 50 thousand facial masks, 2,500  protective clothing and 10 thousand PCR tests to Montenegro.

Hungary’s prime minister and Montenegro’s president emphasized that the virus can only be defeated by vaccines and that the countries’ economies can only be restarted with inoculation. Viktor Orban and Milo Dukanovic highlighted that it was a great achievement for the authorities of the two countries to reach an agreement at the end of April on the mutual recognition of vaccination certificates, as well as on the abolition of entry restrictions for immunity cardholders.
