Measures imposed in November to curb the coronavirus pandemic will definitely remain in place in Hungary until 1 March, the minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office said. A third wave must be prevented, Gergely Gulyas stressed, pointing out that the measures already in place have proved effective in containing infections and should stay in force.
In Hungary, the government re-imposed measures in November to curb the second surge of the coronavirus epidemic. Measures include a night curfew and a general ban on large events. Restaurants are not allowed to receive customers while secondary and higher education institutions have switched to online classes.
In accordance with the government’s decision, measures taken in November will remain in force until 1 March, the minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office said at his press conference.
A third wave should be avoided, Gergely Gulyas stressed, pointing out that the measures already in place have proved effective in containing infections and they should remain in force. The government has asked Parliament to extend the extraordinary legal order for another 90 days.
The restrictions can only be lifted if the spread of COVID-19 continues to decline or there are sufficient quantities of vaccines available.
