Hungary does not accept Afghan migrants without restrictions

By UME

Hungary will not take in Afghan migrants without restrictions, Levente Magyar, the parliamentary undersear at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, told public media on Monday.

Levente Magyar recalled that in the recent past, everyone could follow the complete military and political collapse in Afghanistan, when the international armed forces under the leadership of the United States of America decided to leave the country after 20 years.

When the Americans announced the withdrawal, the Hungarian government declared that this process must take place in such a way that Afghanistan does not again become a hotbed of international terrorism and a country of mass migration, the Secretary of State explained the position of the Hungarian government. He added that the operation unfortunately did not meet the expectations accepted and articulated by much of the world.

As he said, the Hungarian government is not prepared to pay the Hungarian people the consequences of this wrong geopolitical decision and the wrongly implemented geopolitical measures. “We do not accept the expectations, initiatives and demands that Hungary should fully welcome anyone who wants to leave Afghanistan in these difficult days and weeks,” he said. He noted that “documents are circulating in the international community” and calling on countries that once had troops in Afghanistan, as well as Western countries in general, to take in Afghan migrants without restrictions.

Levente Magyar also talked about how Hungary still makes an exception in one case: they are seriously considering how to help those who have worked for the Hungarian teams in the last twenty years as interpreters or in other qualities. As he said, they are in contact with these people and it is being examined how they could help them. The Foreign Minister stated: Hungary is a military ally of the United States of America, but at the same time, because of its strength on the global stage, America can do something that no one else can. He added that the team’s withdrawal obviously shouldn’t have happened that way. What we are now seeing from different parts of Kabul and Afghanistan is frightening, and I think it could be the beginning of an era in the context of migration and international terrorism – not just Central Asia and the Middle East,

According to the Afghan foreign minister, who wants to leave the country today, he can get to Turkey without major obstacles, and “it is up to our Turkish friends to deal with this situation.” He added that after the Turks, Hungary is the first on the migration route to Europe that has a more serious border protection capability.

If migrants pass through the Turks, they will be at the Serbian-Hungarian border crossing Röszke within a few days; So Hungary needs to prepare for a serious wave of migration, Levente Magyar said. He stressed that Hungary’s borders had been protected for the sixth year in a row and that defence capabilities had so far been excellent and exemplary.

“I am not afraid” that Hungary’s security will be jeopardized, he said, adding that Hungary must nevertheless make it clear to all its partners that “such decisions by the great powers are unacceptable, because they have catastrophic consequences.”

This is jointly rejected by the Hungarian people, as has been expressed several times, and the government is protecting it, Levente Magyar stressed.
