Did journalists snack away nine thousand euros on Maljevac?

By: Spletni časopis

“Neither the Housing Fund nor Maljevac’s ministry have yet explained to us why, during exactly the same period, as shown in the Erar application, they paid two invoices to the Hiša Fink – the first for €7,870 and the second for nearly €1,200, totalling over €9,000. Therefore, today we will ask the owner about this ourselves.”

Last night on Planet TV, Vitomir Petrovič reported on the investigation into why the State Housing Fund and the Minister for Solidarity Future, Simon Maljevac, enjoyed snacks worth nearly nine thousand euros at Hiša Fink. The invoices were issued on March 27th, just a few days after a new neighbourhood with 186 non-profit apartments was opened in Novo Mesto – a project carried out under the previous Janez Janša government.

Petrovič was given details by the owner, Damjan Fink, who said: “They had been here once before and asked if we could make an offer for the opening of the entire neighbourhood, which will have around 300 people. So, we provided catering there, with a value of less than 30 euros per person, basically a very good price. This is misinformation – that was catering outside our Hiša Fink.”

According to Petrovič’s report, the catering outside the restaurant cost 7,870 euros, while a smaller invoice for 1,200 euros was for a group that actually came into the restaurant. Fink described it this way: “The second invoice was for guests I do not know who they were. There were no political figures here. I know they came and ate à la carte – soup, main course, dessert – so the bill was completely normal. Our dishes range from daily meals costing 10 euros, lunches costing 18 to 25 euros, and a tasting menu. Basically, our prices are transparent and visible on the menu.”

The reason other media have scarcely reported on this interesting use of funds, which was uncovered by Bojan Požar, may be that journalists themselves were among those snacking at state expense and therefore know from personal experience what it was about and whether it was tasty. However, as long as the Housing Fund and the ministry remain silent about who exactly they paid for the catering, we will not know.

Hiša Fink offers good food and drinks and probably often hosts state and semi-state bodies.
