Tünde Volf-Nagy interviewed Hans-Georg Maaßen on Radio Kossuth’s program Vasárnapi Újság .
Hans-Georg Maaßen was head of the German secret service (Federal Constitutional Protection) until 2018, but was replaced because he dared to deny that right-wing extremist groups were hunting migrants in Chemnitz.
The situation in the city escalated after an Iraqi-Syrian group stabbed a man in the street, but the German press “feared” for the migrants.
Hans-Georg Maaßen will run again as a CDU candidate in the Bundestag election in September. But not everyone in their party is happy about it. Maaßen says it is sad that some of his party colleagues believe that everyone in the CDU should be left-wing.
Maaßen, for example, is committed to conservative values when it comes to migration, although he prefers to call himself a realist.
“I’m not against migration as long as we help people who need help. But I am firmly against a policy that promotes politically senseless migration without any direction or control. I therefore believe that strict control of migration is the guiding principle. By the way, that’s what the law says, ”he said.
Maaßen said that many people agree with him, but one of the main problems is that these voices are not heard in the media, because in Germany journalists are mostly green and left-leaning.
“90 percent of young journalists on public television identify themselves as green and left,” said Maaßen.
In his opinion, Hungary and other countries have helped to reduce migration, but Germany is not doing much to get the situation under control, as hundreds of people still come to Germany every day to apply for refugee status.
The situation on Lampedusa and in the Mediterranean is a serious threat to migration policy.
Regarding the fight for chancellorship in his party, he said that Laschet’s candidacy had actually led to some people quitting because Laschet would continue Merkel’s policy, while many wanted a change of direction. Those who represent realistic and conservative values have few alternatives at the moment, but they would like the CDU to return to this profile.
The most important thing, however, is to prevent the Greens from becoming chancellor or from winning the elections.
In his view, this would be a step towards socialism. He added that he is a big supporter of Europe because we can best keep our independence, identity and peace together, and cooperation is very important. However, he was against a centralized Europe.
“The European bureaucracy has failed several times in the last ten years: in migration policy, in saving the euro, in the procurement of vaccines. Many decisions should be returned to the nation states because they can be resolved much better locally than by a central bureaucracy in Brussels based on a planned economy, ”he said.
