Greek MEP: Only the Visegrád Four countries have a good migration policy

By UME

Emmanouil Fragkos believes that as long as the European Commission is left-wing, all countries that fulfill their mandates will have problems with illegal migration

The European Commission’s current measures in the area of migration policy do not take into account the well-being of Greek citizens, according to Greek MEP Emmanouil Fragkos, who is a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR).

In an interview with Polish Catholic Radio Maryja, he explained that it was impossible for Greece to grant asylum to all illegal migrants and allow them to reside on Greek and European soil.

The MEP stressed that his country’s left-wing government is inefficiently fighting illegal migration and is not assertive vis-à-vis the European Commission.

“The only countries that have good migration policies are the Visegrád Four. Poland and Hungary are doing the right thing, even though they are being attacked by the European Commission for it,” he said.

Fragkos believes that Europe is facing another migration crisis. He drew comparisons between the current crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border and the situation between Greece and Turkey. Turkish President Erdogan had pushed migrants to Greece to put pressure on the country and demand more funding from the European Commission. Belarus sends migrants to the Baltic states for similar reasons.

“Nevertheless, the Polish government protects its citizens. If Greece were to pursue a similar policy to Poland, it would not have to fear a wave of migrants. Unfortunately, this is not the case, and Poland is in a much better situation thanks to the actions of its government,” he said.

The Greek MEP believes that all countries that follow the instructions of the European Commission will have problems with illegal migration as long as it remains left-wing.

The Commission should strengthen the borders and make it clear to illegal migrants that they will not make it to Europe, but will only lose their money to the smugglers.

“If we stop the first attempts and send them back home, we give them a clear signal that it is not worth trying because they have no chance of staying in Europe,” he said.
