Today, in the light of the escalating epidemiological situation, EU leaders will discuss, among other things, accelerating the vaccination of the population against covid-19. Member States have used almost 60 million doses of the vaccine so far. Hungary, Malta, and Finland are at the top in terms of the share of the vaccinated population with the first dose, whereas Croatia, Bulgaria, and Latvia are at the end.
According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), EU Member States had consumed 59,118,703 of the received 70,891,752 doses of the vaccine against the disease caused by sars-cov-2 virus by Wednesday.
The most successful country in terms of the share of the vaccinated population with the first dose of the vaccine is Hungary with 19.7 percent, where in addition to vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), Russian and Chinese vaccines are also used.
The vaccination campaign is also successful in Malta, where 18.3 percent of the population has been vaccinated with the first dose so far. They are followed by Finland (16.6 percent), Estonia (15.6 percent), and Denmark (13.6 percent).
In sixth place is Austria, where 13.5 percent of the population has been vaccinated. In Ireland, 13.3 percent of people received the first dose of covid-19 vaccine, 13 percent in Cyprus, and 12.3 percent in Slovakia. Sweden is in tenth place with 11.9 percent vaccinated.
They are followed by France with 11.7 percent, Lithuania with 11.6 percent, and the Czech Republic and Luxembourg with 11.3 percent. In Romania, 11.2 percent of the population received the first dose, and in Greece, Belgium, and Portugal 11 percent each.
Slovenia, together with Germany and Spain, is in 19th place with 10.8 percent of those vaccinated with the first dose. Poland (10.7 percent), the Netherlands (10.6 percent), and Italy (10.5 percent) are also above ten percent.
In the last three places are Croatia with 9.2 percent, Bulgaria with 5.5 percent, and Latvia with 5.4 percent. According to ECDC data, 11.3 percent of the population received the first dose at the Union level. The EU aims to vaccinate 70% of adults by the summer.
