By: P.T., STA

The decision was announced by the health minister in a television interview.

In Slovakia, teenagers as young as 16 years old can start receiving the coronavirus jab from Thursday, Health Minister Vladimir Lengvarsky has said.

The minister also underlined that some 1 million doses of the Pfizer/Biontech vaccine are expected to arrive until the end of May, the country’s state news agency reports. Based on official calculations, all people wishing to receive the jab may be inoculated until the end of June in the country boasting a population of 5.5 million people.

Infection figures have been improving slowly but steadily in the past month in Slovakia. The number of new infections, patients requiring hospital treatment and coronavirus-related deaths are all on the decline.

1.35 million people have received at least the first dose by 27 April, according to the National Health Information Centre (NCZI). Some 436 thousand people have already got the second jab.
