Prime Minister Janša on the current campaign: “The deep state is repeating the tactics of 2020”

This is not just a case of double standards. The deep state is repeating the tactics from 2020, when editorial meetings and coffee gatherings of editors at RTV Slovenia and 24ur began with the question: “So, how are we going to screw over DeSUS and SMC today, meaning Počivalšek and Pivec?” says Prime Minister Janez Janša in connection with the campaign against the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, Zoran Stevanović.

“I will really need some time to restore order in parliament. Not because I do not know how, but because certain female MPs from Svoboda behave so street‑like that it is almost unbelievable. I apologise on their behalf. Everything will be OK,” reads the statement by the President of the National Assembly, Zoran Stevanović, which visibly upset the opposition and triggered demands for an apology. The female MPs of Svoboda even announced that they would file a lawsuit. The current campaign clearly shows the selectiveness of the left when it comes to condemning “ours” versus “yours”. When, for example, Anuška Delić from the portal Oštro dared to call the priest Branko Cestnik a “street thug”, there were no moral objections or demands for an apology. But now, when Stevanović described the behaviour of some individuals, behaviour unworthy of the National Assembly, as “street‑like”, condemnations and expressions of outrage from the left are plentiful.

In his recent statement, Janez Janša reminds the public of the time of their previous government: “During the superhuman efforts to contain the epidemic and protect people’s lives and health, the main topics of their broadcasts were prosciutto, sandwiches, the purchase of protective masks, and a minister’s overnight stay. And then there were the daily media pressures on MPs and ministers of both parties, the hanging and burning of effigies with their faces, insults, threats, and daily harassment in front of the National Assembly,” he emphasised, adding that over time some people buckled under the pressure and the government lost its majority in parliament.

According to Janša, the exact same pattern is repeating itself. He stresses that the President of the National Assembly is obliged to oppose violations of parliamentary procedure and street‑like behaviour in the legislative body, regardless of who is engaging in it. “Not to mention that in the current campaign against him, we are witnessing a situation where the thief is the one shouting ‘catch the thief’,” he adds.

This is a media character assassination. As Janša further states, what we are dealing with is in fact a media assassination of character, “characterised by the endless repetition of a fabricated accusation, with the aim that after a certain time almost no one remembers what the accused actually said or in what context.” “What remains is only a negative label that is then constantly attached to the person at every media opportunity. Parrot‑like. Relentless. For as long as the person represents any kind of threat to the deep state and the privileges of its ayatollahs,” he said clearly.

According to Janša, it has been obvious for two weeks that the main targets this time are the MPs of the Resni.ca and Demokrati parties, because they have been declared the weak link. “It is also more than obvious that neither of them would be considered weak if they had bowed to the dictate of exclusion and supported the left‑wing coalition,” he explains, adding that those who do not believe this should recall from the previous term “the vulgar outbursts of MPs from the ruling Svoboda party, led by the former Speaker of the National Assembly, and try to find similar attempts of media assassinations against them, or even a repeated, serious critique of their conduct.” “You will not succeed,” the Prime Minister concluded.
