“No government in the EU should ever punish any media for showing an opposing side of view. The European People’s Party will not tolerate the abuse of justice for political purposes. We call upon the European Commission to urgently look into the case & protect media freedom & the rule of law in Slovenia.”

This was how Manfred Weber, the leader of the largest political group in the European Parliament, the European People’s Party (EPP), responded to the police raid in Slovenia.

He was reacting to the political intimidation by Golob’s Putinist machine that we witnessed against the opposition media and host Boris Tomašič in recent days. The search warrant was signed by Ljubljana judge Mojca Kocjančič, known for having acquitted Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković at least four times and being the ex-wife of Aleš Zalar, a former vice-president of the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia (LDS) and former Minister of Justice.

The warrant names eight suspects under investigation, none of whom are from Nova24TV or its staff, including Boris Tomašič. Instead, it lists seven current or former leaders of Telekom, all appointed by Marjan Šarec’s government.

The politically motivated police raid against the media and Boris Tomašič, 10 days before the elections, has resonated much more strongly in Europe than the perpetrators of this political affair anticipated.

The political police raid in recent days has already been condemned by the International Democrat Union and the International Centrist Democrat Union, with responses also from Republicans for National Renewal, the online portal European Conservative, and individual commentators.

Recall that on September 27th, 2023, host Boris Tomašič set a Guinness World Record for the longest talk show in history, lasting an impressive 73 hours, 23 minutes, and 21 seconds, with the participation of 70 guests.
