Romana Tomc, MEP was a guest on the show Kdo vam laže. She gave her opinion on the work of Sophie in ‘t Veld’s commission, which studied the situation in the field of rule of law, media and prevention of corruption. According to Tomc, the commission did not act transparently from the very beginning and did not listen to what their interlocutors had to say, so the group did not achieve its goals. “They did not find out the state of the rule of law, as they dealt exclusively with the issue of delegated prosecutors,” she explained, adding that the commission did not deal with non-transparent ownership, concentration and “tycoonisation” of the media. “It dealt exclusively with STA funding, and we did not come across corruption at all.”

In the show Kdo vam laže, MEP Romana Tomc explained that Brussels is much more peaceful on the topic of Slovenia than the Slovenian media say. “There it is something that most people do not talk about, in fact they do not even know it is happening,” she said, adding that it was an exported domestic policy issue. “These are political intentions to harm the government, and what we have somehow predicted so far has been proven by ‘fingerprints’ of those who remained in a document by the office of Tanja Fajon, who had nothing to do with the preparation of this report, as she was not on the mission in Slovenia,” she added.

As Fajon was pleased “that the report showed how everything is wrong in Slovenia”, Tomc believes that that is a sufficient proof that that was Fajon’s fundamental purpose and goal. Tomc, who took part in the mission, points out that the report has not been adopted at all. “I expect that the MPs will also say something about the report, when it is corrected at the technical level, whether what is written inside is OK or whether it expresses the actual situation or not,” said Tomc, explaining that there was no vote on whether they agree with what is written or not. “And that shows the somewhat undemocratic leadership of the whole group.”

According to Tomc, the commission and its chairwoman Sophie in ‘t Veld have been non-transparent from the very beginning, including the creation of lists of those who were their interlocutors on the Slovenian side. She saw the group as an ‘inquisitorial body’ that comes up with some pre-determined goal and does not listen to what their interlocutors have to say to it. “They just know what they have to write in the end to do as much harm as possible to the government,” she explained.

The Commission did not achieve its goals

The mission aimed to establish the situation in the field of the rule of law, the situation in the field of the media, and the situation in the field of prevention of corruption. “None of these goals have been achieved by this commission. It did not find out what the state of the rule of law was, as it dealt exclusively with the issue of delegated prosecutors,” she explained, adding that the commission did not deal with non-transparent ownership, concentration an “tycoonisation” of the media. “It dealt exclusively with STA funding, and we did not come across corruption at all.
