On June 20th, 2014, SDS leader Janez Janša was unjustifiably imprisoned without any evidence. The transitional left thus wanted to eliminate the number 1 competitor, Janez Janša.

On December 12th, the Constitutional Court granted the proposal of SDS President Janez Janša to suspend the execution of the judgment in the Patria case until the final decision, the Constitutional Court announced. The decision was taken unanimously; all nine constitutional judges voted in favour of the detention. At 5 pm, Janša had already spoken at a rally in front of the Supreme Court, where he addressed his supporters, who protested every Wednesday against the unjustifiably imprisoned president, then the largest opposition party, the SDS.

At that time, the SMC party, led by Miro Cerar, won the elections precisely because of incitement to corruption and bribery.
