Marta Kos announced that she is leaving the largest government party, Gibanje Svoboda. As she wrote, this is no longer her party. She explained that she had been thinking about this step for some time. The circumstances that caused her to withdraw from the presidential candidacy, and later from the position of vice president of the party, have not changed, they remain the same and are getting worse, she added. According to her, the conflict regarding the Minister of the Interior, Tatjana Bobnar, and her resignation from this position, among other things, indicate the tightening, wrote STA.
“I decided to leave Gibanje Svoboda party. I have been thinking about this step for some time and I made the decision after careful consideration,” wrote Marta Kos on Facebook.
Her exit from Gibanje Svoboda is both support for the Minister of the Interior, Tatjana Bobnar, and at the same time a warning that the future of respect for democratic standards should not depend on a few individuals, but on a culture of dialogue based on values, emphasised Kos.
Marta Kos was one of the founders and most influential members of the Gibanje Svoboda party. Robert Golob presented her as his foreign policy adviser at the founding congress. She was a candidate of Gibanje Svoboda for president of the country, but she withdrew from the candidacy. The circumstances of the resignation were not publicly explained.
“The conditions that led to the circumstances that caused me to resign from the candidacy for president of the country, which later led to my resignation as vice-president of the party, have not changed. On the contrary, they remain the same and intensify. This is also indicated by the current conflict regarding Tatjana Bobnar and her resignation from the position of Minister of the Interior. I have always represented democratic principles, professionalism, the values of non-corruption, equality, and human rights. I can say the same for Tatjana Bobnar. All her activities have always been committed to these principles. My resignation is therefore also a direct support for Tatjana Bobnar,” explained Kos.
And she added: “And at the same time a warning that the future of respect for democratic standards must not depend on a few individuals, but on a culture of dialogue based on values. Especially those that we have chosen as the most important in the Gibanje Svoboda party: respect, freedom, responsibility, and trust.” But apparently, Kos no longer perceives these values in the party of Robert Golob.
Initial reactions on Twitter:
Bojan Požar: “In the end/soon, only Golob, Vuković, Modic, and Cirman will remain with this party, because Črnčec will find a new Šarec or Golob… 😉”
The first reactions to the departure of Marta Kos were also given in the Gibanje Svoboda party. They wrote: “It is a personal decision of Marta Kos, so the party will not comment on it further. Membership in the party is voluntary and we are happy that new members are joining the party every day due to our achievements so far, the fulfilment of pre-election promises, and our commitment to our values.”
