Economist Majnardi on deception: Food is more expensive every day, but according to government data it is cheaper

By: Domen Mezeg / Nova24tv

“According to government data, food is getting cheaper every day. However, according to SURS data, the price rose by almost 20 percent in a year, almost two percent in December alone. Apparently, some really live in a parallel world of their own,” economist Majnardi responded to the deception of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Economist Tilen Majnardi touched on the misleading statements of the Ministry of Agriculture that the average basket of food, the prices of which are monitored by the Ministry of Agriculture, “cost 41.28 euros with the inventory at six retailers in Slovenia on January 17th, which is the lowest so far and about 17 percent less from the value in the first inventory last September,” reported STA.

As stated by the Ministry of Agriculture, the price of the basket increased this time only at a single food provider. Data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia show a completely different picture. Food prices rose by almost 20 percent in a year, and by almost two percent in December alone. The question arises, who should be believed, the ministry or SURS?
