During yesterday’s government visit to the Gorizia region, Prime Minister Janez Janša also spoke about the deterioration of the epidemiological picture and pointed out, among other things, that the government is determined not to close the economy and stop society. “It is now in everyone’s common interest to achieve such vaccination coverage that the covid-19 epidemic will not endanger normal life,” he said, adding optimistically that we would overcome this crisis as well, as we proved last year that we could do it.

During his visit to Hidria company – namely, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia visited the Gorizia region today – Prime Minister Janez Janša stated that the municipality of Idrija was among the ten municipalities with the highest vaccination coverage and wished that all municipalities had at least the same vaccination coverage as Idrija and Vipava, where vaccination coverage exceeds half of the population. He reminded that at the state level, unfortunately, we are facing an increase in coronavirus infections and patients. He also pointed out that the government is determined not to close the economy and stop society, but where there are cases of new infections, the profession orders quarantine, closes classes, it can also decide to close schools, plants, service activities, if necessary.

Vaccination is thus the only way at this time to avoid interfering with normal life and functioning. Therefore, it is now in the common interest of the government, the opposition, the media and each individual to achieve such vaccination coverage that the epidemic will not endanger either normal life or the capacity of the health system. The Prime Minister also pointed out that Slovenia has many different vaccines from which citizens can choose, and vaccination is free for individuals. “If it comes to that that the Slovenians will be the only ones in Europe who did not know how to take advantage of this opportunity, we would also be the only ones to have our healthcare system collapse. It is a simple logic and something that is quite clear at the moment. There are no more dilemmas as there were at the beginning of the epidemic,” said the Prime Minister.

Janša also wrote on Twitter today that there are already about a hundred classes in quarantine because many do not get vaccinated out of selfishness, even though there is enough vaccine and it is available to everyone free of charge. According to the Tracker for covid-19, 103 departments in primary and 50 departments in secondary schools were quarantined on Tuesday, and another 70 primary and 26 secondary school departments had distance education.

At the time of the deepest corona crisis, the company was helped by government intervention

The members of the government first met at a working conference at the Dvorec Hotel in Tolmin, where Tolmin Mayor Uroš Brežan gave some introductory words, praising the government’s constructive cooperation with local self-government in the field of average cost per capita and other areas important for municipalities. After a working consultation, the Prime Minister met with the management of Hidria, one of the leading global corporations in the field of automotive and industrial technologies and electrical engineering. The company also hosted a ceremony marking the company’s 50th anniversary today, during which the Prime Minister addressed the gathered, and together with Hidria Holding CEO Iztok Seljak laid the foundation stone for a new investment in key parts of electric motors for electric cars. In his address, Seljak emphasised that the government’s intervention during the deepest covid crisis last year, when the market came to a standstill, helped the company to “keep Hidria standing and that today we can also celebrate a new investment.” He also pointed out the new employments that will follow the investment for which the foundation stone was laid yesterday.
