The Municipality of Preddvor asks for help, while the ruling authorities disgracefully deceive

By: Moja Dolenjska

Last Friday night, storms and heavy rainfall caused significant problems in the Gorenjska region. Several houses were flooded, lightning caused damage, and landslides blocked local roads.

The worst hit was the village of Kokra in the Preddvor municipality, where a large landslide damaged 10 houses, rendering at least two uninhabitable. The swollen creek washed away a bridge, necessitating the evacuation of several people.

Preddvor Mayor Rok Roblek estimated the repair costs would be several million euros. The municipality had already been affected by floods last year, with similar heavy rain and landslides. Again, this year, massive amounts of water and debris flowed into Kokra from the hinterland.

Golob’s deception

And now, attention? If anyone thinks that the government or any individual from the government, perhaps the ultra-wealthy Golob himself, will help the municipality and its residents, they are mistaken. According to Robert Golob, the government lacks the legal basis for such assistance. They do not recall any allocations in the state budget. Instead, funds are being reallocated, for instance, to purchase a building on Litijska Street in Ljubljana or to buy 13,000 worthless computers that have been stored in a warehouse in Logatec for almost a year, incurring storage fees. Not to mention the tens of millions of euros spent on illegal migrants or rewarding ultra-leftist NGOs. There are also the current government’s world tours.

Remember, even after a year since last year’s floods, the government has not built a single replacement house for those affected by the floods, despite Golob’s promises to construct 100 prefabricated houses per month. Nothing has materialised.

It is no wonder that the leaders in Preddvor municipality have realised they can only rely on themselves. Not entirely, as their resources are also limited.

The Municipality of Metlika has published a call for help on its website, received from the Municipality of Preddvor, which reads:

“The storm that hit the residents of Kokra in the Preddvor municipality last Saturday has severely threatened their safety and deprived them of secure living in their homes.

To provide assistance and alleviate the distress of those affected, the Municipality of Preddvor has started collecting financial aid to mitigate the consequences of the storm in Kokra.” A special budget item has been opened. The municipality promises that all collected funds will be used exclusively to help those who suffered damage from the storm on the night of July 19-20, 2024, in Kokra! Every euro counts, so they invite everyone to contribute according to their means.

This is a significant disgrace for the ruling coalition (Gibanje Svoboda, SD, and Levica) and their leaders: Robert Golob (Svoboda), Matjaž Han (SD), and Asta Vrečko (Levica), as well as all other ministers. And let’s not forget Urška Klakočar Zupančič, the President of the National Assembly, who was practically in tears these days because she was not invited to the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris.

While most of them or their associates are living it up and partying around the world on taxpayers’ money, municipalities have to beg for help to assist their citizens. Truly shameful!
