State Secretary Stanislav Raščan attended the introductory part of the first virtual European archival symposium entitled Digital Transformation in Archival Science. Dieter Schlenker, Director of the Historical Archives of the European Union, Peter Pavel Klasinc, Head of Archival Sciences Alma Mater Europea, and Bojan Cvelfar from the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia also took part in the introductory part of the meeting.

The main speaker at the symposium was the Minister without portfolio responsible for digital transformation, Mark Boris Andrijanič, who together with archival experts, academics and IT experts from the region raised the issue of digital transformation in archival science, archival theory and practice.

State Secretary Raščan presented the priorities of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, underlining that the digital transformation, together with the green transition, is a key element of the Union’s economic recovery. Europe aims to become greener, more digital, resilient and safer from cyberattacks. The European Union’s Digital Agenda is focused on completing an ambitious legislative package to strengthen digital resilience and respond effectively to crises. The European Digital Compass for the next decade was presented in March aimed at developing a human-centric digital transformation and building the European Union’s digital sovereignty. Major changes are being brought about in the world of digitalisation by the development of artificial intelligence, which offers enormous potential and advantages for the individual, society and humanity, so the digital transformation also brings new opportunities and challenges to archival science. During its Presidency, Slovenia is working to step up concerted efforts to further progress the Union in the field of the digital economy, with the aim of ensuring a secure, resilient, humancentric and responsible digital transformation.
