A plan to relocate 750 migrants currently at Greek camps to France is finally moving ahead, after being delayed for some time due to the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, Greece’s Minister for Migration and Asylum, Giorgos Koumoutsakos, announced that 750 migrants in Greece would be relocated to France, as per an agreement made in January with French Secretary of State to the Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nunez, Infomigrants reports.

The announcement came after a meeting between Mr. Koumoutsakos and the French ambassador to Greece Patrick Maisonnave.

“The relocation procedures which had temporarily stopped due to the health crisis will start again as soon as possible,” Koumoutsakos wrote in a press release following the meeting.

Of the 750 migrants who will be relocated, 400 are normal asylum seekers while the remaining 350 are so-called ‘unaccompanied minors’. The first batch of ‘unaccompanied minors’ is expected to leave Greece for France sometime in July, according to the ministry’s announcement.
