The last measurement in the Valicon survey showed that the rise in the cost of living affects two-thirds of the respondents – STA summarised that every month there are more and more people whose daily life is significantly affected by the fall in property values. This time, 19 percent of respondents chose this answer. The results of the OECD also prove that it is not just about people’s feelings. They concluded that Slovenia is inexorably approaching the OECD countries that currently suffer the most from inflation.
Among the ten offered political and economic circumstances or events that affect our daily lives respondents have been putting the rise in the cost of living as first since March. This is how 67 percent of respondents in the July survey decided, which is significantly less than the 75 percent who decided on this answer in June. In second place, with 45 percent, is a possible lack of goods, food, and energy sources. The share of respondents who chose this answer has been at a similarly high level since March, only in April, just before the parliamentary elections, it fell below 40 percent.
In third place is climate change with 38 percent, which is twice as much as in March. The increase in this share coincides with the rise in daily temperatures, Valicon explained. On the other hand, compared to March, the share of those who chose the war in Ukraine as a circumstance that significantly affects their daily life is almost half as low. This time it is 23 percent. The biggest change in the July measurement is represented by the choice of the answer “the spread of the coronavirus”, which was chosen by almost a quarter of the respondents, or ten percentage points more than a month earlier. The normality index, which monitors the personal experience of the situation, is 6 and has been positive for the fourth month in a row. This means that there are more people who experience the current situation more positively than not. This index reached exactly such a value when it was first measured at the end of March 2020, less than two weeks after the first closure of public life due to the covid-19 epidemic.
The financial situation index was minus 28 in July
Considering the beginning of this year, the indices of the financial situation and the volume of consumption have deteriorated significantly. The financial situation index, which is used to monitor the assessment of personal current and expected financial situation, was minus 28 in July. This means that the share of those whose financial situation has worsened or is expected to worsen is higher than the share of those for who this does not apply. View of the consumption index is even more pessimistic. The index is used to monitor the assessment of the volume of consumption, and for the second month in a row it is lower than minus 60. This means that there are significantly more people who have already or as expected, will reduce the volume of consumption, than there are those who answered the opposite.
The share of those who say that they will definitely or probably get vaccinated is 80 percent
Last but not least, the survey determined the intention to get vaccinated against covid-19, which has been unchanged for several months. The share of 18- to 75-year-olds who have already been vaccinated at least once, and those who say they will definitely or probably get vaccinated, amounts to 80 percent. Meanwhile, the share of 18- to 75-year-olds who have been vaccinated at least once and/or who are confirmed to be infected by a PCR test, or who are absolutely sure that they have already been infected, even though they have not been tested, is 89 percent. Valicon conducted the last measurement in the #Novanormalnost survey from July 18th to 21st, and 515 respondents participated.
Janez Janša: We are already in the upper part of the ranking
Opposition champion Janez Janša also warned of the drastic deterioration of living conditions. He wrote online: “A few months of ‘freedom’ and we are already at the top of the list with inflation.” Underneath the comment, he shared the OECD publication, which shows inexorable data that the Slovenian dominant media cannot forge.
