The judiciary is contaminated by the most radical representatives of the (L)eft!

By: Celjski glasnik

Especially on the left, people like to insist that the judiciary is an independent branch of power and isolated from political influence.

At the same time, it is precisely on the left that we see the most transitions from the judiciary into politics and then back again. And now it seems we may be getting the most radical representatives/candidates yet making the move into politics, within Levica itself?

Media are already reporting that former state secretary at the Ministry of Justice, now head of the Legislative Service at the Supreme Court, Tina Brecelj, has decided to run as a candidate for Levica. This would mean that Slovenia would in fact get a parliamentary candidate for the most radical party, and that this person is actively embedded in the functioning of the Slovenian judicial system.

“How are we supposed to trust the judiciary if the head of the Legislative Service at the Supreme Court is running for such an extreme party as Levica?! And if her candidacy fails, what then, will she return to the supposedly independent judiciary?” This is how economist Dr Matej Lahovnik reflects on these transformations between politics and the judiciary.
