At the extraordinary session, the Expert Council of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana unanimously adopted a resolution proposing the introduction of compulsory vaccination against covid-19. This decision was made “because of the interest and suffering of all obvious and invisible patients, which has been lasting for two years and there is no end in sight,” UKC Ljubljana explained the council’s decision on Twitter.

The expert council of the University Clinical Centre (UCC) Ljubljana consists of expert directors of clinics and is chaired by expert director Jadranka Buturović Ponikvar. Calls for the introduction of compulsory vaccination have recently intensified in the medical profession. The Slovenian Medical Association called for the introduction of compulsory vaccination. The President of the Medical Chamber of Slovenia, Bojana Beović, has repeatedly called for such a decision to be considered. Mateja Logar, head of the expert group for covid-19, explained that the group supports the introduction of compulsory vaccination for people over 50.

Minister Aleš Hojs emphasised that he personally has a lot of confidence in the profession and that he “internally advocated the introduction of compulsory vaccination” last year. According to him, the profession did not support compulsory vaccination at the time. “Now things have obviously changed, we have more studies, analyses and scientific evidence,” he said. He reminded that compulsory vaccination could otherwise be introduced under the existing law on infectious diseases.

At Friday’s press conference at the end of the Vaccination Days campaign, Minister of Health Janez Poklukar expressed his joy that discussions had opened on compulsory vaccination and the condition of recovery, vaccinated (PC) or on the future status of the unvaccinated in society. As he believes, society will have to take a position on this, and we must be as united as possible.
