According to the measurements of the Australian institute among the countries of the world, Slovenia has slipped from a high, 5th place in 2021, to 7th place in 2022 on the ‘Global Peace Index.’ It is clear that not enough has been done in the area of security in Slovenia,” former Director-General of the Police, Anton Olaj, recently wrote on Twitter.

Former Director-General of the Police, Anton Olaj, recently pointed out on Twitter that Slovenia has become a less safe country in 2022, compared to the previous year. In 2021, it ranked fifth, and in 2022, it ranked seventh. The research is carried out by an Australian institute – The Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), which increases confidence in its results.

The report shows that Slovenia and Denmark are the only two countries among the ten most peaceful countries in the world to have recorded a decline from 2021 to 2022. This is partly due to the aggressive protests we have seen in our country. Namely, remember the violent riots of the political cyclists that ravaged the streets of Ljubljana and other cities. They were subsequently acquitted, while the police were demonised. The current authorities are thus complicit in the deterioration of safety and security in our country.

It is also worth pointing out the increasingly acute problem of (illegal) migration. Last November, an Eritrean migrant stabbed a local woman in the middle of Ljubljana and was subsequently detained by the police. The incident took place in front of the “Parlament” pub on Šubičeva Street. And the trend continues this year. At the beginning of February, a foreigner stabbed a local man to death in Murska Sobota.
