Letter from MEP Romana Tomc to UNI: You should be aware, as representatives of workers, that in this case you are defending an incompetent manager of the national broadcasting company

Mr. Ruben Cortina, President UNI

Mr. Peter Hellberg, President of the regional organisation Europa

Mrs. Christy Hoffman, General Secretary

I was deeply surprised by your statement about the general manager of Slovenian national broadcasting company RTV, Mr Kadunc. It is based on false information that can be disproved at any time.

You should be aware, as representatives of workers, that in this case you are defending an incompetent manager of the national broadcasting company. It is strange, but I can assume that you believed the information that was somehow brought to you without checking the facts first. It is even stranger, bizarre, that unions, who asked for your support, are not defending the employees either, but the manager himself.

You were probably not informed that in the times of the leadership of Mr Kadunc, the national broadcasting company has been recording the worst business results ever and that under his leadership the loss is only getting higher every year.

Furthermore, important information for you would be that many journalists and other employees are working in very bad conditions, with low salaries and atypical contracts. Precarious employments are widely spread. The manager you stand behind is the one who is responsible for that.

However, I believe that you personally, as well as your organisation were deeply misused for political reasons. This is sad.

In order to clarify this situation, I would appreciate your prompt response, especially your comment about the responsibility of the general manager, Mr Kadunc, for precarious work within the national broadcasting company and the enormous loss in the years of his leadership.

I am looking forward to your comments.

Kind regards,

Romana Tomc

Member of the European Parliament
