Both Nika Kovač and other government‑aligned NGOs never tire of proclaiming how essential it is to protect people from sexual and physical violence, but, it seems, only up to the point where their own are concerned.
Despite the fact that the Fotopub affair, where actors exploited young girls for sexual services, has been dragging on for a long time, the matter appears stuck at a dead end with law‑enforcement. Dušan Smodej still strolls cheerfully around Ljubljana.
Even though one of the main actors in this scandal freely roams the capital and can be seen by the public, law‑enforcement apparently cannot track him down. Even the government‑friendly Dnevnik reports that the court cannot locate Dušan Smodej and, eight months after the indictment was filed, has still been unable to serve it. Yet tomorrow the authorities, who seem to be shielding Smodej, will moralise to the public about how the court could not find the opposition leader, or how he failed to accept court documents.
