After Gregor Hudohmet, director of Gen-I Sonce, was detained in Romania over allegations of bribery, the management board of the parent company, Gen-I, ordered an audit of the transaction that, according to information released so far, is the subject of the investigation. The company has also appointed interim directors to lead Gen-I Sonce.
Gen-I said it first learned from media reports on Saturday about the detention of Gregor Hudohmet, who is described in the article as a close friend of Robert Golob, and about the proceedings being conducted against him in Romania. On Sunday, the company’s management board convened an extraordinary session and adopted specific measures aimed at clarifying the circumstances of the case and protecting the interests of the company, its employees, customers, and business partners.
The management board ordered an audit of the transaction connected to the project for the construction of a battery energy storage system in Gheorgheni, Romania, which, according to information published so far, is the subject of the investigation. The audit will seek to establish all relevant facts and circumstances surrounding the transaction, while the legal assessment of the case will be left entirely to the competent authorities.
Pending clarification of all circumstances, and to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the company, the management board also appointed Jure Soklič and Sandi Kavalič, respectively the chairman and a member of the parent company’s management board, as interim directors of Gen-I Sonce.
Alongside ordering the audit and appointing interim management, the board also adopted a resolution to examine the possibility of freezing the project until all relevant circumstances have been clarified. The company noted that the project represents an important step in the field of energy storage and in the continued successful development of the Gen-I Group on international energy markets.
The company emphasised that it is concerned by the allegations and is treating them with the utmost seriousness. “Integrity, accountability, and compliance are fundamental standards of our operations. The Gen-I Group therefore has zero tolerance for corruption and other unlawful conduct.”
Gen-I Sonce and Gen-I have not yet received any official information from the Romanian authorities regarding the case.
The company added that if the audit or official proceedings reveal any irregularities, it will act decisively, responsibly, and in accordance with applicable legislation. Gen-I also maintains that the matter has no impact on the group’s ongoing operations.
