According to MEP Romana Tomc, CONT and LIBE committees are exchanging views with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, where MEPs are interested in the opinion of the European Public Prosecutor on the solo action of Prosecutor General Drago Šketa in Moscow, where he concluded a programme of cooperation with the head of Russian state prosecutors Igor Krasnov. In the discussion at the exchange of opinions with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, Tomc also pointed out the suspicion of misuse of European funds in the case of former NPU director Darko Muženič. “The case will be considered by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office,” Tomc explained.
MEP Romana Tomc is taking part in a debate at the CONT and LIBE committees on Slovenia, where the views are also being exchanged with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. “MEPs are also interested in how the European Public Prosecutor comments on the scandalous visit of the General State Prosecutor Šketa to Moscow,” Tomc explained.
Recall, the head of prosecutors Drago Šketa travelled to Moscow to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Russian prosecutor’s office. In this case, it was said to be his solo action, while East-West relations were already strained before the war in Ukraine. The Russian prosecutor’s office is an extended term of power and is actively persecuting dissidents and critics of the government, which is why any democratic prosecutor’s office should boycott such invitations to celebrations.
On January 13th, this year, just over a month before the Russian aggression on Ukraine, Šketa signed a programme of cooperation with the head of the Russian state prosecutors Igor Krasnov during his visit. The agreement has raised quite a bit of dust, as it is a person who has been on the list of people subject to restrictive measures in all European Union countries due to serious human rights violations since March last year, Domovina reported.
Muženič is also under scrutiny
In an exchange of views with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, Tomc also pointed out the suspicion of misuse of European funds in the case of former NPU director Darko Muženič, former director of the Anti-Money Laundering Office and an important actor in money laundering in the NLB gate affair. “The case will be considered by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office,” Tomc explained.
In the past, it was not overlooked that Muženič became the head of the NPU, under whom it was concluded that the prosecution of those involved in the NLB gate should be abandoned, from the position of director of one of the key institutions that should be investigated within the NPU – the Office for the Prevention of Money Laundering. Former director general of the police Tatjana Bobnar said at the time that Muženič was in a completely different position at the time of the money laundering.
It is known, however, that the NPU criminals, who proposed abandoning the investigation under Muženič, failed to conduct an informative interview with Iranian Ira Farrokzadeh, although it was known when he was in Ljubljana. And economist Rado Pezdir, for example, succeeded as a member of a bank investigation team.
