Leftists opposing the governmental measures of the center-right government have gathered in several Slovenian cities today despite the ban on mass rallies, which are the true breeding grounds for COVID-19 virus. They were encouraged by journalists and editors of the Slovenian mainstream media.
About two hundred leftists gathered at the Trg republike in Ljubljana at noon today and turned the platform in front of parliament into a potential breeding ground of contagion. There were similar smaller gatherings in other cities around Slovenia, too.
Although rigorous measures were applied throughout Europe to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the most important being the ban on mass rallies, political activists of the left, representatives of non-governmental organizations and supporters of the left-wing political option ignored that in Slovenia.
This illegal gathering, on which some left-winger came on foot and some by bicycles, violated the Decree on the temporary general prohibition of movement and assembly of people in public places and areas in the Republic of Slovenia and the prohibition of movement outside municipalities.
The Police Directorate Ljubljana reported that the organizers of the unlawful gathering submitted un application to the police administration on Friday, but the police did not give them permission, as the police forwarded the application to the competent administrative unit. Police officers therefore today carried out proceedings for violations of decrees prohibiting assembly in public places and movements outside the municipalities. The data will be send to the Health Inspectorate for further processing.
To prevent any possible growth of the breeding ground of contagion, the police also ordered a ban on access to the platform, which left-wingers ignored and they also removed a ribbon that indicated an access ban.
Protests were also encouraged and supported by mainstream media. The same media that recently were very loud about how the government is establishing a totalitarian system in Slovenia. All European organizations have fallen for this propaganda by left-wing activists: from IPI, EBU and IFEX to OSCE and the European Commission. European Commission vice-president Vera Joureva even asked for clarification from the Slovenian government on what is happening and indirectly supported Slovenian public television.
And it is precisely the employees of this television who today actively participated in the promotion of the protests, although health experts all over the world warn that such rallies should be banned as the deadly virus is spreading there the fastest.
