MP Anja Bah Žibert (SDS) highlighted the double standards used by the current government during yesterday’s session of the National Assembly, where the interpellation against Minister of the Interior Boštjan Poklukar was being discussed.
At the start, Anja Bah Žibert showed photos of police officers recently present at an event in Sodražica. Minister Boštjan Poklukar was also in attendance, along with the President of the National Assembly, Urška Klakočar Zupančič.
The event, called Psoglavski dnevi, took place on Friday, June 27th, 2025, and featured a performance by the band Šank Rock, whose member is the new partner of the President of the National Assembly. Anja Bah Žibert revealed what eyewitnesses said about what happened that day:
“There was a police van, an off-road vehicle, and a riot control vehicle. Criminal investigators from Ribnica and patrol cars were circulating around the venue. Officers wore protective vests, and there were dogs in the police van. We have never seen anything like this in Sodražica. But when did they leave the scene? Immediately after the president (Klakočar Zupančič) left. So, it was not about protecting the citizens and residents near Ribnica, where issues with the Roma community persist, it was about something else entirely.”
Bah Žibert then asked Minister Poklukar: Where were all these vehicles, and where were all these officers when the mayor of Ribnica and a policewoman were attacked? They were not there.
She emphasised the need for preventive action and gave another concrete example, Andrej Brečko from Šentjernej. She explained that this year alone, he had reported more than 40 incidents to the police involving breaches of public order and damage to his property. He even attended the June session of the Human Rights Commission, where no representatives from the government or coalition were present. Only one state secretary showed up. What followed that session is well known: members of the Roma community visited Brečka’s home, caused property damage at night, and a week later, he was severely injured in another nighttime incident.
And Minister Poklukar does nothing, just looks away. In Šentjernej, where he was two days ago, he did not even consider it worth meeting the victim of Roma violence.
