Michael Caine says being an evacuee was ‘one of best thing that ever happened’

Sir Michael Caine reveals being shipped to the countryside in WWII was wonderful – and being bombed by the Luftwaffe meant a new house for his family.

Sir Michael Caine claims being evacuated to the countryside during the Second World War was “one of the best things that ever happened to him.”

The Alfie star, 86, said living on a farm with organic, real and non-sugar packed food aided his growth and health. 

The Oscar winner admits that while bombs rained down on his South London home, being evacuated helped him have a healthy upbringing.

He was born in Rotherhithe in 1933 and then grew up in Southwark, but during the Second World War, was evacuated to North Runcton near King’s Lynn in Norfolk.
