The Van Halen guitarist has said he believes his throat cancer was caused by years of sucking on his metal guitar pick.

Eddie Van Halen is reportedly battling throat cancer he believes was caused by years of sucking on his metal guitar pick.

The guitarist of rock band Van Halen has been travelling back and forward between the US and Germany for treatment for the last five years, according to reports in the US.

The 64-year-old was a heavy smoker, but thinks his cancer was caused by holding his metal plectrum in his mouth while he was on stage, TMZ reports.

Eddie, who has been hailed as one of the best musicians of his generation, was first diagnosed with cancer in 2000.
