Leftists are the greatest ruin for Slovenians

By: Bogdan Sajovic

The other day, some Che Guevara types in Austrian Carinthia occupied a local museum and broke a few laws in the process. The Austrian gendarmerie intervened and took down the details of a few of the loudest ones.

Ooo, tragedy! roared the united Slovenian left in unison – because genocide or something. Among the museum occupiers was also some quasi-Slovenian student association, whose members most enjoy parading around with Yugoslav-communist flags. And now, apparently, all of Sloveniandom should support and glorify these Yugo-nostalgics, in the name of patriotism, of course. That is what the very same leftists demand, the ones who in Slovenia are the loudest supporters of multiculturalism. The ones who would instantly grant citizenship to every stray who crosses the border of our homeland. The ones who, time and again, shame Slovenian traditions as rural, backward, or “catholiban.”

Naturally, leftists are, as usual, full of crap and hypocrisy. They support Carinthian Slovenes solely because the majority of them vote for left-wing parties. Otherwise, Slovenian leftists, and their counterparts across the border, could not care less about Carinthian Slovenes. Let’s look at some historical numbers. During the Anschluss in 1938, the Nazis counted 43,000 Carinthian Slovenes. At the fall of the Reich, there were 42,000. Three-quarters of the missing ended up falling with the Wehrmacht on the Russian front. Then, for three and a half decades straight, Carinthia was governed by leftists, and the number of Carinthian Slovenes plummeted to 16,000. This was followed by one and a half decades of right-wing rule in Carinthia, and the number of Slovenes, Haider notwithstanding, remained roughly the same. Then the left took power again, and the number of Slovenes once more dropped, to today’s twelve thousand, give or take a few hundred. These figures clearly show, then, that leftists are the greatest ruin for Slovenians…
