Check how Bešič Loredan nodded to Černač’s words: “People will pay more, not less”

“Bottom line – without the other changes, people will pay more, not less,” SDS MP Zvone Černač summarised the essence of the Golob government’s changes, which misleadingly announced the abolition of supplementary insurance, in the 24ur show.

The announcement of the abolition of supplementary health insurance sounds nice, but there is something else behind the scenes, which Golob’s government did not say. However, the essence of these quasi-changes was well summarised by SDS MP Zvone Černač in the 24ur show. Minister of Health Danijel Bešič Loredan was also sitting next to him, who only nodded at Černač’s claims.

“Bottom line, people will pay the same as they pay today. According to your forecasts, the state treasury will obviously pay more, as you said yourself, up to around 150 to 200 million euros per year. Yes, where does this money come from, from people’s taxes, so, bottom line, without other changes, people will pay more and not less,” SDS MP Zvone Černač summarised the essence of Golob’s government’s changes in the 24ur show.

Already in January, after the coalition summit, Golob said that they had discussed everything possible regarding health reform, including the abolition of supplementary health insurance, which is written in the coalition contract, but everyone together concluded that this is not the biggest problem in the field of health care at the moment. They found that the health insurance company is a significantly bigger problem. And two months after Golob’s words, we got, as SDS MP Jelka Godec said, “an act of desperation”, which was wrapped in cellophane in PR style.

The fact is, however, that the change comes from two legal drafts that were considered by the National Assembly in 2019 and 2020 during the time of Marjan Šarec’s government, with the SDS party already expressing its disapproval at that time. “You are not cancelling but transforming this voluntary supplementary health insurance into a mandatory lump sum. Maybe there will not be payslips, but it will be torn from the net salary and people will not even see it, but they will pay,” Godec said at the time in the presentation of the parliamentary group’s position.
