President of the Slovenian Democratic Party (Slovenska demokratska stranka – SDS), Janez Janša, has visited Kyiv again, where he met with the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal. As he wrote on Twitter on Monday, this was a “friendly meeting” in the Ukrainian capital, which he had already visited in March of last year, shortly after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as the then-Prime Minister of Slovenia, together with the Prime Ministers of Poland and the Czech Republic.
“After a year, another friendly meeting with the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, in Kyiv. Ukraine is much stronger today, and the support of the free world is much greater than it was in the dark days of March 2022, immediately after the start of the brutal Russian aggression,” Janez Janša tweeted, adding a photo of him shaking hands with Shmyhal.
He also warned that “there is still far too little aid provided for Ukraine, and it gets there far too slow, and the price of the delays is, unfortunately, being paid for in human lives.” “The fight of the Ukrainians against the Russian aggressor is a fight of good against evil, which threatens the security of the whole continent and beyond,” Janša said.
As Prime Minister, Janša visited Kyiv in mid-March last year, shortly after the start of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, with the Prime Ministers of Poland and the Czech Republic, Mateusz Morawiecki and Petr Fiala, to express support for the attacked country. The delegation also included the Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, Jaroslaw Kaczynski. In Kyiv, they met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who thanked them for their support.
The three Prime Ministers were the first foreign leaders to visit the Ukrainian capital since the start of the Russian invasion on the 24th of February last year. Later, other foreign leaders followed suit, as did several Slovenian government representatives.
