According to STA, the National Assembly (NA) yesterday overwhelmingly supported the declaration on the current situation in Ukraine, in which it condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and Russia’s recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk provinces. With the declaration, it also supported sanctions against Russia and Belarus and Ukraine’s European perspective.

67 of the 74 MPs present voted in favour of the declaration, which was submitted to the parliamentary procedure by MPs of all parliamentary groups with the exception of the SNS. No one voted against.

With a declaration, the National Assembly condemns Russia’s aggression against Ukraine as “the worst violation of international law”. It also condemns Russia’s recognition of the Luhansk and Donetsk provinces as independent republics. In addition, it expresses solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who have the sole right to decide on their future, supports humanitarianism and calls for peace efforts.

At the same time, MEPs support the international sanctions adopted so far against Russia and Belarus. They also support Ukraine’s European perspective and its application for membership of the European Union, as well as the adoption of a clear plan guaranteeing membership until 2030, provided that the conditions are met.

The Slovenian Government is urged by the National Assembly to continue humanitarian aid to Ukraine and to support activities in the international community to establish talks between the Ukrainian and Russian sides. On behalf of the government, Foreign Minister Anže Logar also expressed support for the declaration.

The MPs authorised President Igor Zorčič, who also submitted the draft declaration, to inform President Borut Pahor, Prime Minister Janez Janša, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, European Council President Charles Michel, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

At the beginning of the extraordinary session, which was also attended by the Ukrainian Ambassador Mikhail Brodovich, the MPs took a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

How MPs voted on the declaration

The declaration on the current situation in Ukraine was supported by 67 MPs from the government SDS, Konkretno and NSi, as well as the opposition LMŠ, SD, SAB, DeSUS and unaffiliated MPs. MPs from the Levica, SNS and national communities abstained or were not present in the hall.

STA published a tabular presentation of the vote on the declaration on the current situation in Ukraine:

Another interesting tweet on this topic:

That @sukic_natasa and @PRSiter have removed their signatures for a declaration on Ukraine where Russians kill children is at Epstein’s level. Shame on @stankalevica
