In Poland since Friday (03.10), high-ranking representatives of around 15 right-wing parties from various European countries have met to discuss a possible alliance in the EU Parliament.
The unification of right-wing parties would mean the second strongest force in the European Parliament, French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen said. Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki also spoke of a “turning point in the history of Europe, the European Union and the sovereign EU member states”. It is important to “put a stop to the usurpation that concentrates power in the hands of the European elites,” Morawiecki said.
Also present were the head of the Italian Lega party, Matteo Salvini, Hungary’s Prime Minister and head of the Fidesz party, Viktor Orban, the leader of the Polish ruling PiS party, Jaroslaw Kaczysnki, and the chairman of the Spanish party Vox, Santiago Abascal.
The parties now gathered in Warsaw signed a joint declaration last July that they want to form a political group in the European Parliament. In addition to the signatories already mentioned, FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl was also present. On Saturday, the FPÖ announced by means of a press release that Federal Party Chairman Deputy Marlene Svazek represented the Freedom Party at the consultations in Warsaw.
“The common goal is to preserve the cultural and political diversity of sovereign nation states in Europe, but above all to take action against further centralization and to tackle the issues of migration, border protection and the transfer of competences back to the national level courageously and consistently,” said Svazek.
