Excerpt from the press conference of Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó on the admission of Afghans
Foreign Minister Szijjártó clarified the issue of the reception of non-European migrants to those who still had doubts:
“We are Hungarians, not idiots!”
Péter Szijjártó: As far as the Afghans are concerned, we will not accept the redistribution of refugees, Hungary will not participate in a distribution mechanism.
Hungary will only accept Afghans who have served in the Hungarian troops. The Hungarian army has a closed list of Afghans who were their comrades and whose lives could be in danger, and we decided to take them and their families with them. But no one else will come from this list.
When NATO declared the need for a withdrawal from Afghanistan, Szijjártó and several other foreign ministers asked the question:
1) Every effort must be made to ensure that Afghanistan does not become a terrorist haven after withdrawal.
2) Every effort must be made to prevent a new wave of mass migration to Europe.
You only have to take a look at the world map to understand what’s going to happen. Understand that no one and no country will be able to stop this wave.
From Turkey, it is only a step towards the Balkans. And from there a step to Croatia and Hungary. The memory of 2015 is still fresh, and it is important to remember who witnessed this time, this pressure from the masses of illegal migrants. Because some countries inspired, encouraged, favored these masses to march to Europe.
Hungary’s position has never changed: the waves must be stopped, the arrival of Afghans must be prevented. Because of this, we will not participate in any quota, compulsory or voluntary admission, we will only help those who have helped us and the matter will be settled. We have always made that clear.
As for defending the EU’s borders:
Who still remembers the reactions of the European countries, the EU, when we built our border fences in 2015 to stop the illegals?
There’s a reason nobody remembers it. This is because fences are being put up everywhere these days. Poland, Lithuania, Greece … everyone thinks it’s the right decision.
We do not expect the bureaucrats in Brussels or the ministers of neighboring countries who are still in office to remember it, because that is politics. But they could apologize for calling Hungarians indecent and degrading. You could admit they were right.
We can’t expect words of apology, but facts are facts.
And if, in 2015, Brussels had not been primarily concerned with harassing and slandering the Hungarian government for building this fence, but had agreed to work with us to do what is necessary to stop the waves of illegal migrants , we wouldn’t have such problems today.
Brussels has forgotten its 2015 stance towards Hungary, but unfortunately not the binding quotas for the distribution of illegal immigrants. They have just been renamed “Migration Pact” or “Dynamic Migrants Distribution” …
But we are Hungarians, not idiots, we understand what is behind this grammatical feat of not calling things by their names.
Mandatory resettlement rates remain on the EU agenda.
Let’s just think of the mass of illegal immigrants who want to end up here. It’s not just about Afghan migrants. In addition, there are all non-European conflict regions, the entire sub-Saharan region. From all these areas they break up in great numbers and contribute to the waves that will come crashing down on us.
And to make matters worse, Brussels also wants to introduce quotas!
How great will the pressure be at Hungary’s borders?
We Hungarians speak clearly. The fence is in place, we will defend our borders, no one will be able to enter illegally.
