Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven announces that he will step down as party leader and prime minster one year ahead of parliamentary elections.
In his speech, the premier said he had been head of the party for ten years and prime minister for seven, and that “these were fantastic years.” Now, however, he announced that he will officially resign at the Swedish Social Democratic Party congress in November, a year ahead of the next elections.
“I want to provide my successor with the best conditions,” PM Lofven said.
