Poll on RTV: after the overpower of support for Janša’s coalition, a radical turn!

By: Sara Kovač

After we summarised and published the survey from the RTV MMC website on Nova24TV, the results changed radically. After the overpower of support for Janša’s government, the trend turned in the direction of preliminary elections. An interesting choice, given that this wish is not spoken of often. Were the results changed by the editorial office?

Yesterday we reported on our portal about the poll published by the MMC portal, which showed that as many as 62 percent of respondents are convinced that the government of Janez Janša will end its mandate in the same composition. However, only a few people, 14 percent according to the poll, thought that the KUL coalition would gather 46 votes and form a new government. At the time of publication of our article, sometime around lunch, 1,594 people took part in the survey.

On the evening when a poll was published on RTV Slovenia portal, asking what people wanted to happen in the Slovenian political space, questions arose on Twitter as to why the poll suddenly disappeared from the portal. Well, later the poll came back again, but the results were slightly adjusted. At 18.30 the number of votes was 2,362 with the most votes recorded on the answer “Janša’s government will end its mandate in the same composition”.

After that, the poll miraculously disappeared from the MMC portal, returning a little later. At 19.15, the revised poll showed 2,192 votes, and the most popular answer changed to “we will go to preliminary elections”. In one hour, when the poll was nowhere to be found, they apparently added 975 votes, which completely changed the result of the poll – surprisingly in a way that suits RTV better. If we look at the poll today, 6,775 votes have already been cast, but the answer about preliminary elections is still in the lead with 72 percent. Whereas, only 21 percent of readers seem to want Janša’s government to end its mandate. One percent do not care what will happen, and 6 percent of respondents want KUL to form a government. After all the machinations that obviously took place in this survey, it is otherwise impossible to believe the published results.

If it still does not go according to plan, fix it with mallet

The voting process was also monitored by Twitter user B. Križnar, who designed a graph for a clearer presentation. Križar commented that the methodology for conducting public opinion polls in Slovenia is now clear. If it does not go according to plans, it should just be fixed. If needed even with a mallet. It is clear from the graph that they really used a mallet at MMC, since in the evening the curves turned drastically and shaped the public opinion of Slovenes.
