WHO holds Hungary’s performance in high esteem

According to WHO’s assessment, Hungary has performed well during the first wave of the pandemic, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto has said, adding that the health organisation was appreciative of the Hungarian government’s performance.

The fact that Hungary has managed to procure the equipment needed for the defence is viewed as clearly positive by the World Health Organization, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto told Hungary’s state news agency (MTI).

“The Hungarian healthcare system is prepared, which is also appreciated at the WHO,” the minister said, adding that the difficulty of the first wave was clearly that it caught several countries off guard. That said, Hungary’s performance during its emergency response was something very much appreciated by the WHO.

When it comes to the procurement of equipment, WHO’s position is that countries should rather face a surplus than a shortage of machines. The organisation also agreed with the Hungarian government that a complete shutdown of the country can only be considered a last-resort measure. Peter Szijjarto said WHO’s regulations were in complete harmony with the will of the Hungarian people, which they expressed during the recent National Consultation.
