New York City closes all schools until at least April 20

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Sunday evening that he is ordering all schools in New York City to close until at least April 20.

The mayor said the city will make every attempt to reopen schools on April 20, but that it’s possible that they could remain closed for the rest of the school year.

De Blasio further said that the city will institute “remote learning,” which will start on March 23, and that they are working on ways to provide meals to children in families who depend on school breakfasts and lunches.

The New York City public school system is the largest in the United States, with more than 1.1 million students attending over 1,700 public schools.
