First easing of lockdown expected next week

There had been indications that Slovenia may start relaxing lockdown measures this week, but the government’s chief medical advisor for the coronavirus epidemic said on Tuesday that the easing would not start before next week.

Bojana Beović, who heads the Health Ministry’s medical task force for coronavirus, said the easing would depend on when the health authorities determine that the epidemic is tailing off.

While data on new infections over the Easter weekend is encouraging, it is premature to say whether the epidemic is “being gradually extinguished,” she said.

Asked which portions of society would open first, Beović said nothing had been decided yet but the first segments to reopen are likely to be activities that involve no or minimal contact between people.
