The artwork will be installed above the entrance of the teacher’s school and is expected to be unveiled on the first anniversary of his death.

Nearly six months after the death of French history teacher Samuel Paty, who was decapitated with savage cruelty, the management of his school decided to erect a statue in memory of their one-time colleague. The artwork will be sculpted by Nacera Kainou and is expected to be placed in front of the school building, according to Le Parisien. The artist of Algerian descent pursued her studies at theEcole des Beaux-Arts and The Art Students League of New York, and he has lived and worked in Paris for some two decades, mainly making portraits.

The statue of Samuel Paty is to be unveiled on 16 October 2021, the first anniversary of his gruesome murder. The idea of the statue comes from Claude Quenault, the former mayor of the town of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, who worked as an advisor to former French Prime Minister Michel Rocard before becoming the mayor of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine in 1977, an office he held until 1994. Incumbent Mayor Laurent Brosse and Samuel Paty’s family both approved the erection of the statue, allowing Nacera Kainou to commence his work. Mr Paty’s bronze bust will take 5-6 months to prepare, and it will be installed on the front wall of the school, directly above the entrance. The artist has already contacted Mr Paty’s family and invited them to her workshop to see the sculpture take shape, Valeurs actuelles reports.
