Centre-right parties in Italy continue to enjoy increasing support, with parties led by Matteo Salvini, Giorgia Meloni and Silvio Berlusconi reaching a combined popular support of 48 per cent.

Opinion polls show a significant increase in popularity for the Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia) party led by Giorgia Meloni, whose decision not to back the coalition government seems to have brought results in terms of support. The survey found that Italians are widely dissatisfied with the composition of the new government.

Since Mario Draghi set up his government, Brothers of Italy’s voter support has increased by 1.3 percentage points, reaching 17.5 per cent. As a result of this powerful growth, Giogia Meloni’s political formation could become a rival to the Democratic Party.

Support of the Democratic Party fell by 0.4 per cent to 18.3 per cent, meaning they are only 0.8 per cent ahead of Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party, which now aims to become Italy’s second largest national party behind Lega, strengthening its position to enter a center-right coalition.

Support for Lega has also grown by 0.5 pecentage points, allowing it to maintain its title as Italy’s biggest national political party which enjoys the support of 23.1 per cent of Italians. Another survey shows a 24% public support behind Salvini’s party.

The popularity of Silvio Berlusconi’s party Forza Italia party is also steadily rising. According to the latest poll, it reached 8.1 per cent, owing to a 0.6 per cent increase.
