Politico’s statement is another fake news and lie, primarily disproved by the fact that Hungary’s vaccination programme is one of the most effective in Europe, Hungary’s state secretary for international communications and relations wrote on social media.
“Hungary’s results are obviously a thorn in the eyes of many in Brussels,” because they prove that Hungary has made the right decision when, “recognising Brussels’ botched vaccine procurement, the country also purchased vaccines within its national remit.” This means the Hungarian population is being inoculated with not only 3, but 5 different vaccines, the state secretary said.
Zoltan Kovacs reacted to an article published by Politico on Tuesday, which claimed that the Russian Sputnik V vaccine makes up less than 3 percent of Hungary’s vaccine supply, while the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine makes up more than 32 percent. Still, Hungary’s rate of administration comes in last in the EU, having only used 56 percent of all the vaccines they have, the article says.
Zoltan Kovacs stressed that – in terms of its overall vaccination rate relative to the size of its population – Hungary is now in second place in the EU, where only 6% of the population have been vaccinated, compared to the Hungarian population’s inoculation rate of 11%.
In Hungary the number of those already vaccinated stads at 1.107.791, of which 317.906 people have already received a second jab. Out of the 2,1 million vaccines available, 1,4 million have already been administered, and more than 530 doses will be used by health authorities this week for both first- and second-round vaccinations, the state secretary said.
