Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, president of the majority Hungarian ruling party, is to travel to Brussels on Thursday for a two-day executive meeting and general assembly of the Centrist Democrat International (CDI) [formerly Christian Democrat International], Bertalan Havasi, the PM’s press chief told the Hungarian state news agency (MTI).
Mr Havasi added that the CDI is holding an extraordinary election of officials. According to the proposal of the General Assembly, Viktor Orban may be re-elected the vice president of the organisation.
According to the PM’s press chief, another important item on the agenda of the two-day meeting in Brussels will be the proposal which Fidesz, the Hungarian ruling party, submitted jointly with the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), also a CDI member. The proposal is based upon the final declaration of the Budapest Demographic Summit held recently on the population situation in Europe.
The document highlights, among other things, the importance of measures to strengthen the traditional family model, emphasizes that family policy must remain a matter of national competence, and draws attention to the fact that migration cannot be a means of tackling demographic problems.
